Ranked by most international books around the 10th best
golf course in the World this is a gem of spectacular proportions.
Reputedly Tom Watson's favourite.
The
course was built by Old Tom Morris in 1891 and John Sutherland,
the Secretary through to 1935 and after the Second World
War by John Duncan. Wondrous swards of fairway and green,
with clusters of players dotting the beach front, unfold
a mile in each direction. The embankments from late April
to June a carpet of flaming yellow gorse.
Not
long in modern day Championship standards but a classic
requiring thinking man's golf to tame. Classic elevated
tees and complex sloping greens are characteristic of this
masterpiece.
